Lush yet enough acidity for balance, and with plenty of ripe tropical fruit, this should appeal to fans of medium to rich Chardonnay, and represents an outstanding bargain.
Hand-harvested, crushed and then the juice soaks on the skins for 6 hours prior to pressing, which helps extract important aroma components from the skins. 25% of this wine was fermented in new oak barrels, which contribute a minimal level of oak characteristics, and allows the natural fruit to shine through. The wine was then aged in the same barrels for 12 months prior to bottling.
Like so many wine lovers, Paul Maroon dreamed of moving to Napa and planting a vineyard. In 2000, he was able to accomplish this dream with the purchase of 35 acres of land in the Coombsville area of Napa, where he planted Cabernet Sauvignon, and sold his grapes to highly prized wineries. As so often happens in these cases, Paul eventually got the itch to make his own wine, and in 2008 founded Maroon Wines to produce small lots of handcrafted wine. His Chardonnay is sourced from a single vineyard in the Oak Knoll AVA, just North of Carneros, where the proximity to the San Pablo Bay moderates temperatures and makes it a more suitable area for growing Chardonnay than the warmer areas to the north. This is a beautiful Chardonnay, and you are unlikely to see a better bargain for single-vineyard chardonnay from the Napa Valley.

94 Points, Vinous
Racy, exuberant and flat-out delicious. Seared black cherries, red and purple flowers, sage and vanilla make for a very compelling nose on this bottling of a single clone. The palate is fresh with snappy raspberry flavors and then broadens toward baking-spice flavors, proving quite lush and delicious. This is an especially alluring style.
93 Points, Vinous
A great example of where Cabernet's structure and depth are balanced by Syrah's jammy fruit-forward flavors. Savory aromas of dark berries, cassis, baking spices and vanilla that intermingle with earthy notes of dried tobacco, cigar box and saddle leather. Notes of dark fruit flavors carry on to the palate, with dark chocolate, vanilla and a hint of black currant.
91 Points, Wine Enthusiast
Aromas bright orchard fruit, lemon confit and white flowers. The palate is crisp, fresh, ripe and savory all at once... a nice interplay of honeyed citrus fruits in the mouth, with a light to medium weight, juicy acidity presenting flavors of Asian pear, nectarine and Rainier cherry with a smooth textured finish of new French oak.
