Breggo
2023 Pinot Noir
, Anderson Valley
92 Points - Decanter
Inviting aromas of ripe cherry, strawberry, and pomegranate. The palate unfolds with layered flavors of black cherry, raspberry cordial, vanilla bean and spice, where focused tannins envelop, leading to a rich red fruit finish with blue fruit undertones. It's juicy and engaging, with mulled raspberry coursing through and offers balance and depth with perfect levels of acidity with silky tannins leading to a long engaging finish.
A pleasure to drink now. Will further reward with 5-6 years in your cellar.
You'll want to grab as much of this gem as you possibly can!
Anderson Valley
Anderson Valley's Pinot Noir is considered great due to the region's unique cool climate, influenced by coastal fog and ocean breezes, which is ideal for growing this delicate grape. This climate produces wines with vibrant red fruit flavors, high natural acidity, and complex aromatics, balancing richness with restraint and a distinctive sense of place. The valley's specific terroir, the quality of its winemaking community, and the focus on sustainable and organic farming practices further contribute to its exceptional reputation.
Vintage
The 2023 vintage began auspiciously with historical average rainfall and modest temperatures at the start of bud break. Ample sunshine and early heat resulted in even growth of the canopies, creating uniformity and balance as the vines entered the flowering cycle. The weather was perfect in June and July, with a few heat spikes that kept the plants healthy and sustained. With the cooler start to the vintage and the normal fog pattern of August, the ripening cycle slowed, and the crop achieved ideal hang time for tannin development at modest sugars. Across the board, harvest exhibited terrific character.

Breggo sits on 203 acres of heaven, halfway between Boonville and Philo, in the heart of Anderson Valley on islands of open grassy slopes, on clay-loam soils, with gentle southeastern exposures.
The name Breggo means "sheep" in Boontling, in honor of their place, a 203-acre farm just north of Boonville. A Craftsman house from the 1920s and random cluster of sideways-tilting outbuildings recently served as headquarters to one of the oldest and largest sheep ranches in Anderson Valley. For 150 years, sheep dominated the agricultural landscape of Anderson Valley. Sheep, like the domesticated vinifera grapevine, occupy and even thrive on the geographic periphery - places too steep, with soils too thin and climates too cold for other types of intensive agriculture. Sheep and vines flourish where the domesticated meets the wilderness.
