Vintage
The 2020 vintage proved to be a near-perfect vintage. There is always something to complain about in farming and 2020’s early season issue was a lack of rain. While the berries clusters were smaller and thus yielded a lighter than average crop load, the higher skin-to-juice ratio provides for a more complex and concentrated wine.
Winemaking
The Reynoso Family Vineyards 2020 Red Wine is 100% Estate Grown and consists of 64% Syrah, 35% Merlot and 1% Viognier. Fully hand-picked and sorted, the grapes were crushed and destemmed to tank for a 5-day cold soak. On-skin fermentation ranged from 20-33 days with punchdowns 3 times daily descending as fermentation progressed. The final blend was transferred to 50% new French oak barrels for a 20-month aging process before bottling in summer 2022.

Notes of cocoa, cedar, and warm spice add complexity, while firm tannins and a touch of volcanic minerality reflect the bold characteristics of Calistoga’s terroir. Full-bodied in texture, and remarkably velvety. The tannins gracefully interweave, establishing a flawless equilibrium of acidity and pleasing fruit.

Driven by the mountain's steep, cool-climate terroir, it balances rich notes of blackberry and pomegranate seamlessly intertwined with dark plum, cocoa dust, and roasted mocha, hints of roasted mocha and spice undertones add depth to its complex profile, culminating in a bold, yet elegant finish.
