Maroon
2017 Merlot
, Napa Valley
Rich & Juicy! Gorgeous ruby color, with aromas of black cherry and plum, enhanced by violet and black licorice. There is juicy intense fruitiness on the smooth palette with roasted pepper and baking spice from generous French oak. The soft tannins are balanced with bright acidity and a long finish. Plush yet balanced with a wonderful mix of fully ripened red berry, cherry, currant and rose with a perfect dash of spice from French oak that adds a well-rounded texture, with a long and soft sensuous finish encouraging you to enjoy another juicy sip.
Pair with any of your favorites, including grilled meats, pork, fish, appetizer of courses, and more... like a generous plate served with sauteed meatballs in wine sauce. Oh Yeah!
Vineyard
This Merlot is sourced from the oldest family-owned winery in Napa Valley. The grapes in this wine come from the Chiles Valley AVA in Napa, with a climate similar to the Bordeaux region of France. We're proud to be able to offer this limited production wine!
Winemaking
The Merlot grapes were hand-picked, destemmed and hand sorted with 10 days of skins contact during fermentation. The wine was aged in oak barrels for 28 months, with 1/3 new French oak and 2/3 neutral oak and racked every six months. The barrels were then blended, which softened the tannins and lifted the aromas and flavors.

Maroon Wines was born out of love of the land, love of wine, love of people.
Nearly twenty years ago, Paul Maroon's winemaking dream began with the purchase of 300 acres on the backside of Howell Mountain in Pope Valley, which he later sold. Around the same time, he also acquired the 37 acres that would become Maroon’s permanent home, in what is now part of the prestigious “Coombsville Appellation". Today, 17 acres of this land is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, which produce Maroon's Estate wines.
For ten years, Paul sold his Cabernet Sauvignon grapes to Joseph Phelps for their distinctive Insignia blend. He realized then the high quality of our single-vineyard fruit, and the first commercial vintage of Maroon Wines was produced in 2009.
