The Vintage
The 2011 growing season began with a cool, wet spring with rains falling into early June. The summer days were mild, with few reaching 100 degrees. As in 2010, this was an ideal growing season for Casey Flat Ranch. We were able to slow down the ripening process and extend hang time well into the month of October, resulting in optimal flavor and tannin development.
The Vineyard
The Casey Flat Ranch vineyard sits on a gentle slope at a 2000-foot elevation in the rugged western mountains overlooking the Capay Valley. The 24-acre vineyard is planted to Bordeaux and Rhone varieties. The first vines were planted in 2004 and the vineyard is sustainably cultivated, using materials and farming techniques that emphasize water and soil conservation. The growing season brings warm days and cool nights, creating climate conditions similar to the St. Helena appellation, just 22 miles to the West.
Tasting notes
Fragrant apricot, ripe peach and melon fill the glass. This wine has an underlying grassy character with tropical flavors and a peach essence. It is wonderfully textured and the acidity provides great structure and a lasting finish.

Gold Medal
Light pink in color with aromas of watermelon, cranberry, orange rind, and fresh spring flowers that leap from the glass. The palate offers more peach, strawberry, and melon, with an intriguing note of rose and hibiscus. It's crisp with just the perfect hint of red fruit, and delicate whisper of strawberry that gives goosebumps.
91 Points
Shimmering ruby-purple hue. The nose is a walk through a damp Sonoma forest—mossy bark and wild earth—brightened by high-toned notes of cranberry sauce and blood orange. On the palate, it's generously long in the mouth, with good concentration. It's a masterclass in tension: intense, cherry and red current fruit meets dark spice and fine, sandy tannins.
96 Point Vintage
Entices with aromas of Bing cherry, raspberry, and cedar spice. Indicative of the cool vintage, the wine carries a freshness throughout. The palate offers a harmonious balance between bright red fruit, spice, and nicely woven tannins.
Gold Medal
Generously packed with black cherry, cola, cassis, and plum that all intermingle together in a creamy, velvety texture with great layering, finishing with delightful notes of oak and spice. Persistent, well-defined structure, wonderfully balanced.
