92 Points, Double Gold - American Fine Wine Competition
91 Points - Robert Parker
This is classic 'Big Red' Californian Zinfandel.
From old vines, aged in Hungarian oak 24 months.
Big & jammy with aromas and robust flavors of dark cherry, blackberries, mocha, espresso and hints of black pepper. Incredibly balanced with a supple creamy mouthfeel against a backdrop of structured tannins with a long rich finish. Pair with anything from the meat aisle from turkey, ham, leg of lamb, BBQ pork ribs, any big hearty meal this will shine.
Varietal
Zinfandel is a bold, fruit forward red that's loved for its jammy fruit and smoky, exotic spice notes, and has been touted as "America's grape," but its origins are from Croatia and was likely brought to the USA in the early 1800's.
Chiles Valley, Napa Valley
The Chiles Valley is nestled in the Vaca Mountains above the northeast side of the Napa Valley. The appellation has a cooler climate than the main Napa Valley floor due to elevations of 600–1200 feet as well as a cooling breeze from the Pacific Ocean. Classic 'big red' Californian varieties like Zinfandel, have proved very successful at this location.
Winemaking
The grapes for this wine come from old vines, which produce concentrated characteristics in the berries. The grapes were harvested by hand, destemmed and manually sorted. Fermentation lasted 10 days, with 2-3 punchdowns daily by hand. Prior to bottling, the wine was aged in 1/3 Hungarian oak and 2/3 neutral oak barrels for 24 months.

Nearly twenty years ago, Paul Maroon's winemaking dream began with the purchase of 300 acres on the backside of Howell Mountain in Pope Valley, which he later sold. Around the same time, he also acquired the 37 acres that would become Maroon’s permanent home, in what is now part of the prestigious “Coombsville Appellation". Today, 17 acres of this land is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, which produce Maroon's Estate wines.
For ten years, Paul sold his Cabernet Sauvignon grapes to Joseph Phelps for their distinctive Insignia blend. He realized then the high quality of our single-vineyard fruit, and the first commercial vintage of Maroon Wines was produced in 2009.
