Petaluma Gap "top shelf" Pinot Noir usually starts at $75 and climbs quickly into the triple digits. Everything about this wine fits that "benchmark" profile—except for today's price.

"The 2021 California Pinot Noir vintage is an outstanding 96 point vintage, describing it as a banner year that surpasses the 2019 vintage.  The growing season delivered vibrant, expressive fruit, deep structure, and great potential for aging."
– Wine Spectator

In the glass, a beautiful garnet color opens into an exciting nose of pomegranate, vibrant cranberry, candied strawberry, crushed sage, gravel, and rose perfume.  The palate is a harmonious balance between juicy acidity and plush tannic structure with flavors of Bing cherry, spiced plum, cinnamon, clove, and black tea leaf.  The texture and finish is opulent and fleshy, with savory notes of wild mushroom and damp earth with fine-grained, well-measured tannins.  Lock it up while we have it!  This is easy drinking all the rest of 2026 and beyond.

Food Pairings

Duck breast, roasted chicken, mushroom risotto, aged cheeses.

Terroir & Vintage Details

The 2021 season began with an early March bud break, followed by a warm, long summer and dry drought conditions. However, our vineyard's position 250 feet above sea level—subject to daily winds off the Petaluma River—provided the crucial cooling effect required to retain natural acidity and yield small, flavor-packed berries.

Petaluma Gap AVA, Sonoma County

Defined by its unique wind and fog conditions and their effect on the vines, the Petaluma Gap was designated on December 7, 2017, as an American Viticultural Area (AVA), producing premium grapes that make it one of California's best areas for growing Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah. Just 25 miles north of San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge, it's also the premier gateway to the Sonoma Coast and northern Marin County wine region.
