Owl Ridge Winery 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Brigden Vineyard (Sonoma County)
92 points - Wine Enthusiast
Frequent WineHeist customers already know about our passion for "mountain" Cabernet, from high elevation vineyards throughout California, and they also know that there is nothing we like better than finding a wine with a little bit of bottle age that is showing beautifully right now. Today's offering fits the bill on both accounts, as the 2004 Owl Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from the Brigden Vineyard in the Mayacamas Mountains between Sonoma and Napa and is drinking unbelievably well, and we can't wait to put it in your hands.
The 2004 Owl Ridge Brigden Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon has an inky-purple colored core, with a cherry-red rim. The nose shows an amazing array of classic Cabernet aromas, with tobacco leaf, cigar box, cassis, black cherry, violets, and blackberry cream all taking their turn, yet integrating together as well. The palate is equally complex, revolving between crème de cassis, cherry liqueur, blackberry syrup, and coffee. Good acidity keeps everything tight, and long, velvety tannins carry through for what seems like several minutes on the finish. At seven years old, this wine is really singing, and it probably has several years left at this level, though I doubt anyone will be able to hold off once they have tried it. This is quite simply a marvelous example of California Cabernet, and one that should not be missed!

About The Winery...
Owl Ridge Wines began to take advantage of the high-quality Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay grown in Sonoma County. Winemaker Joe Otos uses 100% French oak and winemaking techniques that preserve the intensity of the fruit flavors. The resulting wines are big, but balanced wines.
They have now reached the point where their wines have begun to achieve the recognition they deserve. Owl Ridge Wines was voted "Best New Winery" at the 2006 Wine Literary Awards Tasting. This is a significant honor because more than 80 wine writers voted in a secret ballot at a tasting that had 1000 wines.
Owl Ridge has won more than 18 gold medals in the last year at major competitions. This includes two "Best of Class" awards.
