2015 Cosa Obra Reserve Pinot Noir

COSA OBRA
2015 Founders Reserve Pinot Noir
Sonoma Coast

Besides its tiny production (only 50 cases) and made from their FINEST barrels, this is absolutely riveting, delicious, awesomely over-delivering Pinot Noir from two incredible Sangiacomo Vineyards (Roberts Road & Southern Sonoma) both of which are Certified Sustainable... delivering a great wine.  Released just weeks ago, they sold most of it via their mailing list (except for a few upscale restaurants that were hip to it) and oh, we got some too.

Tasting Notes
The Founders Reserve Pinot Noir is bursting with black cherry, dark plum, and sweet tobacco, mingling with undertones of savory spice. It's ripe core of fruit is blanketed in silky soft tannin. Notes of earth are made complete with 60% new French oak, leading to a long, velvety finish.

Vineyards
Roberts Road Vineyard brings lively fruit flavors and nice body, with Swan and Dijon 777 clones by adding a bit of extra texture and weight. Generally riper, bolder flavors, it often does well with more heavily toasted barrels. Sangiacomo Vineyard located in cooler climate Los Carneros adds a layer of Pommard for spice additional richness rounding out the profile.

Winemaking
Picked in the darkness of the early morning hours, all grapes immediately subjected to rigorous hand sorting and refinement process.  Whole berries are gently delivered to tank. Cold soaks last five to seven days, and fermentations are managed via a combination of delestage and pumpovers.  Extended maceration ranging from three to four weeks fine-tuned tannin profiles, allowing us to perfect mouth feel and wine complexity. This wine was aged 9 months in 100% French oak, 60% of which was new.
